Suitcase infant couple fit to stand trial...
February 22, 2012
THE Toronto couple whose infant son's decomposing body was found in a
suitcase inside their Kingston home have been declared fit to stand
trial.
The decision was announced yesterday by Senior Corporate Area Resident
Magistrate Judith Pusey after receiving the psychiatric evaluation done
on the couple, Alphanso and Stephanie Warren, who had appeared in court
last month.
The Warrens will next appear in court on March 2 when bail applications are to be made on their behalf.
They have been charged with concealing the death of a child and failure to bury a body.
Concerned residents of Chisholm Avenue in Kingston stormed the couple's
home last month after concerns were raised about the whereabouts of the
infant. The residents found the child's decomposing body in a suitcase
and summoned the cops who later arrested and charged the Warrens.
Since then, reports have surfaced out of Canada that the couple had been
charged in that country for child negligence and three of their
children were taken away by Canadian authorities and placed under the
care of the state.
Alphanso is being represented by attorneys Chris Tavares-Finson and
Courtney Foster, while Stephanie is being represented by attorney C J
Mitchell.
